James R. Dillon of East Tawas, age 79, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at his home, following a lingering illness. He was born September 21, 1934 in Caro, the son of the late Jack and Marjorie (Stout) Dillon. James was employed by MDOT as a forester for thirty-five years. He loved being with his family, growing flowers and gardening. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter and woodworker. James is survived by three children and their spouses, Robert & Valerie Dillon of Tucson, Arizona, Brenton Dillon of Englewood, Florida, James & Sandi Dillon of Cheyenne, Wyoming; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Janet Schutz, of Colorado; his sister, Jean Bednarski of Mayville; one brother, John Dillon of Caro; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Bryon Dillon; sister, Jeanette Jaselyn; brother, Jerome Dillon; brother-in-law, Chester Bednarski; three nephews, David, Dean and Jim Bednarski. In keeping with James’ wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Dillon Family Discretionary Fund.
