William E. Mehney of Caro, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at his home, following a lingering illness. He was born January 3, 1946 in Detroit, the son of Margaret (Weir) Mehney and the late Edward Mehney, coming to the Caro area in the early 1980’s. Bill was united in marriage with the former Marguerite “Mickey” Fletcher on May 10, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was employed as a customer service representative with Detroit Edison, for over 38 years, retiring on July 11, 2003. Bill attended the Sutton Sunshine United Methodist Church. Bill was also an active member of the Caro Moose Lodge #1049 and was a past Junior Governor and Prelate and had earned a Fellowship Degree. He also was a member of the Michigan Moose Legion #107. Bill loved and cherished his children, enjoyed fishing, making three trips a year to Las Vegas and was an avid Michigan sports fan, especially the Detroit Lions and Tigers. Bill is survived by his wife, Mickey of Caro; three daughters and their spouses, Wendy & Kevin Bruce of Colorado, Chris & Beau Egan of Rose City, Jennifer & Tony Vaughn of West Branch; two step-daughters, Jennifer Foster of Madison Heights, Andrea & Rick Mueller of Caro; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his mother, Margaret Mehney of Rochester Hills; two brothers, four sisters and their spouses, Sr. Joan Mehney of the Adrian Dominican Order of Glenview Illinois, Virginia & Paul Colatruglio of Ocala, Florida, Dan & Kathy Mehney of Troy, Edward & Marjorie Mehney of Troy, Robin & Frank Shorkey of Lake Orion, Joann Chesney of Waterford; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Bill was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann McQue and Mary Jo Cooper. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Sutton Sunshine United Methodist Church in Caro with Rev. Dorothy Thon officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. There will be a Moose Memorial service on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
