Raymond H. Sattelberg of Unionville, age 82, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro, following a lingering illness. A lifelong area resident, Ray was born April 22, 1931 in Gagetown, the son of the late Benjamin & Lydia (Ewald) Sattelberg and graduated from Unionville High School with the class of 1949. He was united in marriage with the former Kathryn Lois Kruchkow at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Columbia Corners on April 25, 1953. In 1954, Ray was drafted by the U.S. Army where he served in Alaska until his discharge in 1956. He spent many years raising dairy cattle and devoted his life to farming, a profession he is certain to continue in heaven. Dedicated most to God and family, Ray was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Columbia Corners and cherished time with grandchildren. He also enjoyed being outdoors, boating, fishing, hunting, camping, playing Euchre with his card club and dart ball in the Lutheran league. His contagious smile will be missed by all that knew him. Ray is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Kathryn Lois Sattelberg of Unionville; four daughters, one son and their spouses, Ann & Rick Russell of Akron, Yvonne & Dennis McNeil of Unionville, Tori & Mike Pine of Unionville, Paula & Jon Link of Unionville, Bo & Eileen Trout of Tecumseh; a special Goddaughter, Vickie Trout of Akron; sixteen grandchildren and their spouses, Brad & Beth McNeil of Mason, Tara & Al Schlegel of Richville, Michael & Elise McNeil of Bay City, Garrett McNeil of Caro, Katelyn & Joel Fischer of Akron, Kyle Pine of Unionville, Tyler Dick of Unionville, Olivia Dick of Unionville, Adam Link of Unionville, Eric & Toni Russell of Fairgrove, Mitch & Sara Russell of Akron, Matt & Colleen Russell of Vassar, Kelly & Anthony Burell of Germany, Kristin & Grant Goetschy of Bay City, Jeremy Trout of Grand Rapids, Bogar Trout III of Tecumseh; sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Vincent & Betty Sattelberg of Unionville; two sisters, Beatrice Schulz of Hastings, Bernice Hass of Kinde; many nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by one sister, Edna Prime. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2014 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Columbia Corners. Rev. Paulette Cummings will officiate and military honors will be rendered by the Unionville American Legion and the U.S. Army. Burial will follow at a later date at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. Peter Lutheran Church or the Tuscola County Medical Care Community.
