Charles Ervin Cummings, 79, of Mayville, died following a battle with cancer Friday, February 28, 2014 in his home with his family at his side. He was born December 1, 1934 in Brown City, to Clifford and Pearl (Davis) Cummings. He married Bonnie Caverly November 14, 1953, in Kingston. Charles worked for Buick, Oldsmobile, and Cadillac for 28 years, retiring in May of 1992. He never stayed idol, working for Michigan Sugar Factory, Marlette Trailer Factory, and farming. Charles taught his children and grandchildren a strong work ethic. He liked his cows, cutting firewood, hauling sand and gravel with his dump truck, and spending time with his grandchildren. Charles is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children: Charles Mark (Christine) Cummings of Deford, Gary Bruce (Julia) Cummings of Bronson, and Darren Raymond (Cindy) Cummings of Mayville; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, sister: Beulah Trainor, Mount Pleasant; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Eugene “Jim” Cummings, Howard Cummings, Don Cummings, Jay Cummings, Bernard Cummings, and Geraldine Stephenson; grandchildren; Dustin Ray Cummings, Cheyenne Irvine and Hannah Hunter. Funeral services held 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 3, 2014 at Kranz Funeral Home, Kingston with Rev. Elroy Gilmore officiating. Interment is in Kingston Cemetery, Kingston. Pallbearers for Mr. Cummings will be Keton Cummings, Cody Cummings, Mark Sarles, Jared Sarles, Walter Gentry and Martin Miller.
