Sonja Kay Amon of Sandusky, age 49, passed away on Friday, May 30 2014 at Covenant Health Care–Cooper in Saginaw. Kay was born May 1, 1965 in Flint, the daughter of Rita (Cusick) Kirkland and the late Charles Kirkland. Sonja was united in marriage with Ray C. Amon on August 21, 2000 in Sandusky and has lived there since. Sonja has been ill these last twelve years, but she enjoyed reading, watching movies and television and watching the ‘Betty Boop’ show. Kay is survived by her husband, Ray Amon of Sandusky; her son, Harley L. Scott of Grand Rapids; one brother, Charles Kirkland and friend, Angie Cardamoni of Sandusky; two sisters, Patricia & Ben Taylor of Caro, Joann Lane of Caro; three step-daughters, Melba Amon & friend, Jerry Fritz of Sandusky, Amanda Amon of Flint, Crystal & Karl Kauffman of Jacksonville, Florida; her mother, Rita Putnam of Sandusky; five grandchildren; six nephews and two nieces; aunts & uncles, Rudy & Carol Olivarez of Caro; Shirley Itson & family, Joan Johnson & family, all of Fort Myers, Florida, Jack & Sandy Kirkland of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Imogene Holt of Knoxville, Tennessee. Kay was preceded in death by her father in 1980 and her grandmother, Mary Pat Anderson in 2007. In keeping with Kay’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro at 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 with Rev. John Herron of Life Church in Saginaw officiating.
