Jack Poppy, age 78, of Unionville, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014 at McLaren Bay Region, Bay City, after sustaining injuries from a fall at home. Jack was born January 4, 1936 in Unionville, MI to Wilbur and Mildred (Russell) Poppy. He married Carol Roemer on May 16, 1964 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. He was a lifetime farmer in the Unionville area and a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Columbia Corners. He served in the Marine Corp from 1954-1956. Jack is survived by his wife, Carol of 50 years; his son, Todd Poppy and fiancé, Heather Wrubel, of Brighton; one grandson, Jarrett; one brother, Richard (Audrey) Poppy; one sister, Patricia Pomerville; and one sister-in-law, Helen Poppy. A sister-in-law and her husband Janet and Ken Rink also survive him, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kenton and Russell, his mother and father-in-law, Walt and Ruth Roemer, and one brother-in-law, Derward Pomerville. Visitation will take place Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 12-8pm. The funeral will be Monday, September 8, 2014 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Columbia Corners. Visitation begins at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am. Burial will take place at Columbia Township Cemetery on Graff Rd. in Unionville. Memorial donations may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church (Columbia Corners) and the ACW Ambulance.
