Citizens rejoice in the streets

CARO — Dairy Queen fans have voted and decided. Now, it’s time to celebrate pumpkin’s triumph in the Dairy Queen Blizzard Battle and Caro’s new title — the Official Pumpkin Pie Blizzard Capital of the World.

Victory is sweet for pumpkin town Caro. The Caro High School marching band will proclaim victory with a pep rally after the annual Tuscola County Pumpkin Festival.

Dairy Queen fans, the Caro High marching band, Caro Mayor Dick Pouliot and Pumpkin Festival and Dairy Queen representatives will be on hand at 1 p.m. Sunday in front of free bean soup kettle at the Tuscola County Courthouse.

In true fan-loving form, the Dairy Queen system asked fans across America to decide which Blizzard flavor reigns supreme — Pumpkin Pie or Apple Pie. Celebrating hometown pride, the Dairy Queen system teamed up with the mayors of Wenatchee, Washington, known for apples, and Caro — host city of the Tuscola County Pumpkin Festival. Mayor Frank Kuntz and Mayor Dick Pouliot placed a friendly wager on which flavor would reign supreme.

Pumpkin won with a final total of 54 percent of the vote or 376,148 votes.
