Bette Jean Norrington

Bette Jean Norrington, 68, passed away peacefully at her home in Fenton, with her family at her side on Friday, October 3, 2014 after a hard fought battle against colon cancer. She was the Owner/Director of Caring Hands Daycare & Preschool in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Bette was born on June 3, 1946 in Saginaw, Michigan to Elmer and Arthella Bauer. Bette was the oldest of 3 children. Her two brothers Ken and Tom Bauer currently live in Reese, Michigan with their families. She attended Concordia Teacher’s College, and upon graduation, began her career as a teacher in 1968. After college, Bette remained in the Flint area, teaching at various institutions. For over 40 years, she dedicated her life to her passion for children, child care, and teaching. She was married to Darwin Norrington of Grand Blanc, Michigan on October 11, 1986 at Faith Lutheran Church in Grand Blanc. She enjoyed watching Darwin play hockey in the many leagues and tournaments that he participated in throughout Michigan and the United States. Bette thoroughly enjoyed watching her daughter Kelli dance at her recitals, as well as in college when Kelli participated on the dance team at Saginaw Valley State University, as well as getting to see her daughter follow in her footsteps as a teacher. She also enjoyed watching her son, Marc, play hockey throughout his collegiate and professional career. Bette was always known for her famous chocolate chip cookies, and would even take them to her dentist whenever she had an appointment. She also possessed tireless energy, thoughtfulness, and a willingness to do anything for anyone at any time. Bette is survived by her husband Darwin, stepson Marc; daughter, Kelli (Marcus Doan); brother, Ken Bauer; brother, Tom Bauer (Nancy Bauer); niece, Angela (Mike Reinert); nephew, John; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Arthella Bauer.  Visitation was held on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc. Funeral services were held Monday, October 6, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Rd., Grand Blanc, Michigan. Memorials may be made to the University of Michigan Cancer Center or Faith Lutheran Church, Grand Blanc, Michigan.
