Robert J. “Bob” Morell, 78, of Vassar, died Tuesday evening, August 13, 2013 at St. Mary’s of Michigan in Saginaw. He was born August 26, 1934 in the big stone farmhouse on M-19 in Snover, in Sanilac County, son of the late James and Rose (Shagena) Morell. Bob was a 1953 graduate of Sandusky High School and served his country with the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953 to 1955. On November 15, 1958 he married the former Marlene “Joyce” Brese in Detroit. He was employed as a Diesel Mechanic at Peninsular Diesel in Saginaw for 30 years. Bob was a lifetime member of Richville Conservation Club and life member of International Operators Union Local #324. He loved his large vegetable garden, Bluegrass music, tractors, his wife’s homemade cooking and playing euchre with his buddies. He had a special gift for fixing anything and always was considered a hard worker. His special pleasure was driving to the pond on his property, in the evening, and watching the wildlife that gathered there. Surviving besides his wife “Joyce” are his two sons and three daughters, Tom Morell of Oceanside, CA, Patrick Morell and his wife Carol of Byron Center, Mariann Montgomery of Gilford, Gina DePelsMaeker and her husband Tony of Freeland and Pauline Morell and her husband Dana Pratt of Elk Rapids; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Nathan and Adam DePelsMaeker, Sierra Morell-Tomassoni, Shila Keinath, Olivia Montgomery and Sarah and Catie Morell. Also surviving are his two brothers, Harley Morell of Kingston and James Morell and his wife Dorothy of AuGres; three sisters, Audrey Pozsgay of Deckerville, Erma Decker of Sandusky, Erdean Lingerfelt of Detroit; his brother-in-law, Earl Robson of Deckerville and his close nephew, Larry Langenburg. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by three grandchildren, Natalie, Elise and Collin Montgomery; four brothers, Cletus, Willard, Jerry and Tony Morell and six sisters, Leona Kemp, Reta Langenburg, Loraine Noble, Everene Vezina, Rose Mary Roberson and Genalda Smigill. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 17, from Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home in Reese. Rev Kirk Havel will officiate, with burial to follow in the Juniata Township Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Bob’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until services.
