Dennis Richard Schnell, 73, of Vassar, died Saturday morning, August 10, 2013 at St. Mary’s of Michigan Hospital in Saginaw. He was born on January 15, 1940, son of the late Reinhold and Helen (Wrene) Schnell. Dennis served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged. He married the former Sharon Mae Danks on February 9, 1963 in Saginaw. She preceded him in death on June 23, 2013. Dennis was employed with the Railroad before being employed with the General Motors Corporation as a millwright, retiring in 1999. He was a licensed Amateur Ham Radio Operator and truly enjoyed talking to others every morning all over the world. He also enjoyed NASCAR with Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver along with truly enjoying time with his family. Surviving are his two children, Todd (Shannon) Schnell of Cass City, Jodi Schnell (Kirk Pero) of Vassar; grandchildren, Eric Schnell, Cody Schnell, Quentin Lane and Daniel Pero; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack (Jan) Danks of Bridgeport, Nancy Danks of Birch Run and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, one brother-in-law, James Danks preceded him in death. In keeping with Dennis’ wishes cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
