Frederick Lee Forbush, age 73 years, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, October 14, 2014. He was born on March 17, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Leo and Theresa (Alberts) Forbush. Fred married Diane Korthals on December 5, 1964, and she survives him. Fred joined the U.S Navy in 1959 where he was later honorably discharged. He worked for Vassar Manufacturing later named Means Industrial, as a tool and die maker for 46 years. During his time there he served as president of the local union. Fred was most recently employed as manager of Manor Ridge Apartments in Vassar. He enjoyed flying radio control airplanes, boating and his annual trips on cruise ships with family and friends. Surviving family include his wife of 49 years, Diane; two children, Bethany (Klair) Bierlein of Frankenmuth and Mark (Amy) Forbush of Birch Run; grandchildren, Kirsten and Kaleb Bierlein, Marie (Paul) Kienitz, Christina Van Luchene and Alexandria and Tabitha Forbush; five great-grandchildren and a sister, Debbie Frontera of Atlanta, Georgia. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Frederick “Rick” Forbush and two sisters, Annette Schneider and Gail Dittenberg. Funeral and committal services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014, at St. Luke’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 916 W. Huron Ave. in Vassar. Pastor Christopher White officiating. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home, 149 N. Main St. in Vassar. Fred will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
