John G. Findlay Reese

John G. Findlay, 79, lifelong resident of Reese, died Sunday afternoon, November 16, 2014 peacefully with his family at his side at Covenant Healthcare – Cooper Campus. He was born on August 28, 1935 in Reese, son of the late Cecil and Florence (Gulliver) Findlay.  He attended Reese Schools, graduating from Reese High School and served in the U.S. Army being honorably discharged in 1958. John married the former Kay DuRussel on August 8, 1964 at St. Elizabeth Church in Reese. He farmed in the Reese/Caro area all of his life; continuing to farm with his son, Steven. John was a lifelong member of the Reese United Methodist Church where he had been very active. His hobbies include his art        work  – drawing and painting; playing cards; hunting since he was 18 with the same hunting club for 60 years; he truly enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving in addition to his wife Kay of 50 years, are his children and their spouses: Steven and Audra Findlay of Reese, Kristine and Scott Krieger of Reese; grandchildren:  Jordan, Drew and Taylor Findlay, Shaun and Jaden Krieger; sisters: Thelma Jean Mohr of Caro, Marion (Don) Rushlo of Tavares, Florida; brother: Paul (Pauline) Findlay of Caro; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: James (Sandy) DuRussel of Grand Rapids, Michael (Barbara) DuRussel of Midland, Ann (Jack) Frimodig of Midland, Jean (Tom) DuRussel-Weston of Ann Arbor; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Findlay and brother-in-law, Ruben Mohr all preceded him in death. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 20, 2014 from the Reese United Methodist Church with Pastor Jon Gougeon officiating. John’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw Street, Reese on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Committal services will take place at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Cemetery with full Military honors presented by the Reese American Legion Post #139 and U.S. Army.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Reese United Methodist Church, Reese Unity Library or the Reese Athletic Boosters.   www.waresmithwoolever.com.
