THEDA ELIZABETH ENSIGN, CARO

Theda Elizabeth Ensign of Caro, age 89, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Tendercare in Cass City, following a lingering illness.  She was born August 31, 1925 in Silverwood, the daughter of the late William and Maude (Robinson) Smith.  The former Theda Smith was united in marriage with Lee E. Ensign on June 26, 1943, and prior to his death on March 7, 2015, the couple had celebrated seventy-one years of marriage.  Theda was employed as a grocery store clerk at Kroger’s in Marlette and also at Snow Screw Factory in Marlette before she and Lee moved to Caro in the 1970’s.  She enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening, dancing, snowmobiling and traveling.

Theda is survived three grandchildren, Krista Sue Maxey and her husband, Steve, Mark Allen Ensign and Robert Lee Ensign; one great-grandson, Ryan Ensign; two great-great-grandchildren, Justin and Abigail; brother-in-law and his wife, Douglas and Marilyn Ensign; sister-in-law and her husband, Marguerite and James Caswell; daughter-in-law, Barbara Ensign; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Lee Robert Ensign and Thomas James Ensign; one sister and her husband, Iva and Bill Churchill; one brother and his wife, James and Kay Smith; and two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Brooks and Dorothy Hudson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Keith Mead officiating.  Burial will follow at the Rich Township Cemetery.  The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.  Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.  The family was assisted with these arrangements by the Ransford Collon Funeral Home of Caro.  Friends may share memories, thoughts and prayers online at www.RansfordCollon.com.
