OWENDALE — A young family is mourning the death of a 27-year-old Owendale man who was killed in a crash Saturday afternoon.
Branden Hewitt was driving on Sebewaing Road, just west of Shebeon Road when the van he was driving lost control at the intersection after hitting a snowdrift, causing the vehicle to enter the path of an eastbound pickup driven by Sean Kramer, 26 of Harbor Beach.
Hewitt was pronounced dead at the scene by the Huron County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Kramer was transported by Sebewaing Ambulance Service and treated and released for minor injuries at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon.
Hewitt leaves behind his wife Nicole, and their three small children, 3 year-old Cailum, 2 year-old Brotey and 7 month old Nolen.
A fund has been set up at www.gofundme.com for the family. The fund can be found by typing Branden Hewitt’s name into the search box.
Hewitt was without a life insurance policy and was driving the family’s only vehicle.
The family hopes to raise at least $5,000 to help fund funeral and other costs they will be faced with.
Hewitt was employed at Oak River Dairy Farm in Sebewaing.
He enjoyed tinkering with mechanics, cooking, grilling and giving his boys rides.
Funeral visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 8 from 5-9 p.m. at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing.
The funeral service will be Thursday, Jan. 9 at New Salem Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. Visitation will begin at the church at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
