CARO — Six area fire departments battled a house fire Thursday evening that erupted inside a Caro area home.
The house, located at 214 E. Frank St. and owned by Mike Patterson, erupted into flames shortly before 5 p.m.
“No one was in the home at the time and no one was hurt,” said Caro Fire Chief Randy Heckroth. “It appears the fire was going for some time before the call went out.”
Heckroth said the structure is still standing, however the house is a total loss.
The Caro Fire Department was assisted by five area fire departments at the scene. Vassar, Kingston, Mayville, Cass City and Fairgrove Fire Departments were all on hand to assist with manpower and tankers.
The Caro Fire Department was also assisted by the Caro Police Department and Caro MMR.
Heckroth said the fire department was assisted by so many other departments because of the frigid temperatures.
“We would use one for a couple of hours and another one for a bit,” he said.
Heckroth explained that way, individual fire fighters weren’t out in the cold for very long.
The departments battled the blaze for approximately five hours.
Heckroth wanted to thank everyone who gave a helping hand Thursday night.
“Compliments from the fire chief to the Tuscola County Dispatch, Caro DPW and everybody that showed up,” Heckroth said. “Vassar McDonalds also supplied the American Red Cross with food and drinks for all the fire fighters.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
